Mathematical statements containing a relational operator can be either true or false. The TI-83/84 refers to these operators as test functions. If the statement is true, the calculator will indicate this by giving an "answer" of 1. If the statement is false, the calculator will give an "answer" of 0. We can test a statement simply by entering it on the Home screen and checking the calculator's response. The test functions are found in the TEST menu, which is a 2nd function located over the key. Let's test the statements π = 22/7 and π < 22/7. The first statement is false, because the calculator returned a value of 0. The second statement is true as indicated by the value of 1. |
