POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS | Graphing And Analysis (Page 5 of 7) |
The graph of this polynomial function has three critical points; a relative maximum near x = 2, a relative minimum near x = 5 and an absolute maximum near x = 10. We will find these three points next. To find the coordinates of the first relative maximum, use the CALC maximum command. You will need to answer three similar questions during this process. To set the Left Bound, enter any value of x near but a little to the left of the maximum. The Right Bound can be any value of x near but a little to the right of the maximum. For the Guess, use a value of x that is close to the maximum point itself. We used a left bound of 1, a right bound of 4, and a guess of 2. The first relative maximum occurs at approximately (2.116, 4.465). |
