FUNCTIONS | Basic Graphing And Analysis (Page 10 of 12) |
This function has an absolute minimum point, a relative maximum point and a relative minimum point. To find the coordinates of the absolute minimum near x = -2, use the CALC minimum command. You will need to answer three similar questions during this process. To set the Left Bound, enter any value of x near but a little to the left of the minimum. The Right Bound can be any value of x near but a little to the right of the minimum. For the Guess, use a value of x that is close to the minimum point itself. When the calculator asks each question, the graph is put into trace mode. Just type in the value of x you want, and a prompt will appear as you do. We used a left bound of -2.5, a right bound of -1.5, and a guess of -2. The absolute minimum occurs at approximately (-1.719, -11.301). Based on this result, we can determine the range of this function to be approximately . |
